I’m Michael Bono, Managing Attorney of Aegis Maritime Law. Welcome to our Commercial Vessel Sale Blog! We’re on a mission to support maritime entrepreneurs—focusing on smaller commercial vessels like tugs, workboats, and barges, not massive 80,000-ton freighters or Suezmax oil tankers. Earlier in my career I handled matters involving such ships, worth many tens of millions of dollars. With so much money at risk, those who own large ships have a team of experts to guide them through the vessel buying process. Although smaller operators face many of the same maritime risks as the big guys, they often face these challenges alone and with limited resources.

Having operated a small 5,000-ton Caribbean freighter myself (the one pictured above), I understand firsthand how tough it can be to stay afloat in the very competitive maritime trade. Although I have big law firm and big client experience, my heart is with those who run their own vessels, like I once did.
